Girls Diving Team Wins Second OCIAA and Section 9 Team Diving Championship in Diving Program History
The Warwick Valley Girls' Diving Team enjoyed their most successful season in the program's history this year. For the second straight year, the divers were undefeated in dual meet competition. The girls won the second OCIAA and Section 9 Team Diving Championship in program history, and the first since the 2008 season.
Junior Shannon McNamara won her third consecutive OCIAA and Section 9 diving titles and set a school record in each event. Her total of 513.55 pts at the Section 9 Championships made her the third female diver in the history of Section 9 to break the 500 point plateau. She is also only the second female diver to win three individual OCIAA and Section 9 diving championships. As a senior she will look to become the only four-time champion. Shannon will be competing in the state diving championships in Buffalo on November 17 and 18, where she will be in contention for the state championship.
Freshman Therese Mandracchia placed fifth at the OCIAA championships and fourth at the Section 9 diving championships with a personal best score of 365.15 pts. She had a fantastic season and will be looking to qualify for the New York State Championships next year as a sophomore.
Eighth-grader Aedan Raleigh finished 12th at the Section 9 championships (286.70pts) and was one of two eighth-graders in the finals. Rory Dineen finished 14th at the OCIAA championships (271.75 pts). Seventh-grader Dana Schmidt and eighth-grader Bailey DeSantos both had great seasons for the Wildcats.
The future looks bright for the Wildcats
as they do not lose any divers to graduation this year!
