PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAM
One of the most challenging times in the career of a teacher is his/her first year in a district. Beginnings can be an extremely stressful time. Even though most new teachers are academically prepared to provide their students with stimulating and creatively planned lessons and learning experiences, mentors should lend proper guidance, support and encouragement in order for interns to reach their full potential as professional educators.
GOAL
The goal of the Mentor-Intern Program is to enable new district teachers to be successful in meeting the needs of their students.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Mentor-Intern Program include:
- Training and assisting experienced teachers to serve as mentors
- Providing knowledge of NYS standards,
district-wide performance standards,
district curriculum guides and the Warwick Instructional Model
- Providing instructional assistance, support and general guidance
- Offering experienced teachers the
opportunity to serve as mentors to share
their knowledge and skills with new teachers entering the
field
