COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS AND OTHER BIG CHANGES IN EDUCATION TODAY
For school districts across New York State, the transition to the Common Core Learning Standards as part of the federal Race To The Top initiative will be one of the most challenging undertakings since No Child Left Behind. This year will be especially intense, as 12 "shifts" in curriculum and instruction are required to be completed by the end of the school year. Staff are encouraged to be lifelong learners and to always
remain cognizant of each child's individual learning style. The
district offers an extensive in-service and professional
development program and continually seeks additional courses,
instructors and programs. Teachers and administrators employ a
variety of instructional strategies and practices to implement
the educational program. When visiting a classroom, a parent may
see various strategies and practices at work.
